DHG Info Officer ran Leicester Half Marathon on Sunday 19th October
22 September 2008 On the 17th anniversary of Emily Smith’s open heart surgery to repair an AVSD, mum Sarah ran the Leicester Half Marathon for DHG in a time of 2 hours and 12 minutes.
What's her motivation? Sarah has been DHG’s Information Officer for three years now but has been involved with the charity since 1991.
“DHG was there for us when we needed support. I have met some wonderful people through the years and it’s a great feeling when you know you have helped someone who is going through a tough time. With working for DHG I know how desperately funds are needed – there is so much work to be done for families and it is really frustrating that finances continually hold us back.
I’m hoping that everyone who knows me will dip into their pockets to make this run worthwhile.
I have never done anything like it before, I have done a 3 and a 5 mile race this summer but they don’t compare to 13 miles! I just keep telling myself it will be a slightly better experience than 17 years ago when Emily was in Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s ITU! Back then I would never have dared to dream that she would have been marshalling at my debut race this August for Huncote Harriers. Or that she would ever do any of the things we now take for granted.
Please sponsor me so other families can receive the same fantastic support that we did.”
